Just before Christmas we ran a special extra screening of The King’s Speech to some of our local senior citizens. As with the best film shows there was laughter and a few tears, as memories of the King came flooding back for some of our more ‘stately’ guests!
One lady remembered hearing George VI speak on the wireless; she told us that everyone knew he had a stammer and listening to him was very alcoholism tense as they willed him to get through the ordeal. Another viewer remembered a family connection with the coronation throne – her mother mended the fabric on the seat!
We’re planning other community events like this one, so look out in town or keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for details later in the year. If you have an idea for a special community screening, then drop us a line.
