This March, Screen St Ives will be one year old. Hasn’t time flown? To celebrate this first anniversary, our next screening will be the appropriately named True Grit, the Coen Brothers’ remake of the classic John Wayne western. This new version, nominated for ten Oscars and starring Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, tells the story of a young girl as she tries to avenge her father’s murder, with the questionable help of whiskey-swilling US Marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges).
It’s a fitting title that caps a year of determined hard work to bring cinema back into St Ives. Every second Friday of the month brings a flurry of activity as the Cromwell Room in the Corn Exchange is transformed into a small but select 55-seat cinema. The current programme features films for all tastes, representing the flourishing UK film industry, European and Asian films, and the best Hollywood can offer.
As well as the usual refreshments, we’ll also be holding a prize raffle to raise funds for new screening equipment in the Charter Hall. So come along and help us celebrate! You can pick up tickets from the Corn Exchange or you can buy them online.
