SCREEN ST IVES & CARE NETWORK CAMBRIDGESHIRE: Bringing People Together Through Film
Popular community cinema Screen St Ives, in collaboration with Care Network Cambridgeshire, present a special afternoon screening of the much-loved Ealing comedy Passport to Pimlico under the banner A Classic Film in the Afternoon.
Both Screen St Ives and Care Network Cambridgeshire work to bring people together through shared activities in a friendly, safe space.
This will be a warm and relaxed screening in the Burgess Room at the St Ives Corn Exchange. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the film together and perhaps join in an informal chat afterwards over refreshments. It’s a chance for a break from the routine, to enjoy a great film and meet new people.
Passport to Pimlico is one of the most popular of the wonderful Ealing comedies, made in 1949 and starring Stanley Holloway, and in which some residents decide to declare independence. It’s a timeless film.
The venue has disabled access.
The screening will take place on Wednesday 22 May at 2pm. Doors open at 1:30pm.
Tickets only cost £5. They are available online and at the Corn Exchange, St Ives in advance. Seating is very limited so advance booking is advised.

Screen St Ives (SSI)
An independent community cinema for St Ives, Cambs, SSI is based at the Corn Exchange in the centre of town. Founded in 2011 by a group of film enthusiasts, SSI offers a diverse programme of twice-monthly film screenings as well as other special screenings.
Facilities include: central location, a friendly welcome, licensed bar, disabled toilet, lift, free parking nearby, as well as easy access to the guided busway.
Film Screenings
- Screen 1: “The biggest films on our biggest screen”: the third Friday of each month in the main Charter Hall at St Ives Corn Exchange. Where people can enjoy all the spectacle of the latest films on a large 6.5m wide screen.
- Screen 2: “A window on the world”: the first Thursday in the month upstairs in the Tony Burgess Room. S2 launched in August 2017 following a successful application for British Film Institute funding to buy new projection equipment. The award recognised SSI’s work in bringing diverse, entertaining, and thought-provoking films to the residents of St Ives and beyond. Screen 2 events take place in a more intimate space upstairs with special introductions, screening notes, and friendly, relaxed, optional post film discussions. Audience ratings of Screen 2 events have been extremely positive.
Care Network Cambridgeshire (CNC)
A registered charity, helping people to stay healthy, independent and in touch with their communities. Funded by Cambridgeshire Community Innovation Fund, the Connected Communities Project is active in St Ives and the surrounding villages, and Soham. It encourages and assists local communities and individuals to set up new groups to meet the identified needs of their communities, including addressing loneliness, preventing crisis and reaching people who are isolated due to their circumstances, such as caring for a loved one.
The collaboration with Screen St Ives arose after talking to older people who wanted an afternoon film club as they didn’t like going out at night. They also expressed a preference for seeing classic films. Having a chance to chat and share some light refreshments afterwards provides an opportunity to keep in touch and make new friends.
