Screen St Ives returns with summer screening of Summerland!

Screen St Ives returns to the Corn Exchange on Thursday 15 July for a special screening of the acclaimed British drama Summerland.

For our first film event since cinemas closed in March last year, we’re showing Summerland, directed by Jessica Swale and starring Gemma Arterton. Released in 2020 in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, this beautiful wartime romantic drama was unfairly denied the chance to reach a large cinema audience. We hope to rectify that for our local audience!

Co-starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Penelope Wilton and Tom Courtenay, Summerland tells the story of reclusive author Alice (Gemma Arterton), whose solitary life by the coast is brought to an abrupt end by the arrival of an evacuee from London (Lucas Bond).

“What a lovely, hopeful and rather magical movie this is.”
Mark Kermode, The Observer

With coronavirus restrictions now easing, cinemas have begun to reopen and we’re thrilled that Screen St Ives is able to once again start showing films in our wonderful venue, the historic St Ives Corn Exchange. For now we can only offer a smaller number of tickets per screening than usual, in order to meet social distancing guidelines. Tickets bought in groups will be treated as a separate ‘bubble’, distanced from other ticket holders. The total number of tickets available will depend on the numbers in each bubble.

Other Covid-safe measures in place will include:

  • Hand sanitizer available within the venue
  • Masks should be worn at all times, unless you are exempt
  • Limited refreshments will be available at the bar

Following this one-off screening, we hope to return with a full season of Screen St Ives events later in the year.

You can book tickets for Summerland online.
